Botox or Restylane- Which Dermal Filler is Right for You?
Botox and injectable facial fillers such as Restylane are on top list of popular non- surgical treatments. Although both are used to eliminate wrinkles, they cannot be compared. Many people are unaware that Botox or Restylane have different functions and effects on wrinkle elimination. Botox is a relaxer used to treat wrinkles that are caused by muscle movements that fold lines in to skin while Restylane is filler used to treat wrinkles and folds caused by gravity and loss of volume. In order to choose, one needs to determine which one really is best in getting rid of their particular wrinkles.
Below are facts about Botox and Restylane in order to determine which one is best for you.
Botox treatment
Botox treatment consists of a small amount of specific purified protein produced by the clostridium bacterium injected with fine needles into the small muscles of the face. It freezes and weakens the muscles temporarily reducing your ability to frown or show excess worry lines.
It is used in glabella muscle to get rid of frown lines between eyebrows, the horizontal lines on the forehead, for crow’s feet around the eyes and can be used on the skin at the corner of the mouth and neck.
The procedure is quick, takes 20 minutes with minimal pain, hence no sedation or local anaesthetic is required. Possible side effects include bruising and temporary headache. Treatment lasts three to four months.
Botox can prevent wrinkles; the longer you use Botox treatment, the longer it lasts. The muscle learns how not to make wrinkle even after Botox is worn out.
Restylane treatment
Restylane is a type of hyaluronic acid, a natural occurring sugar-like molecule found in body tissues including skin. Hyaluronic acid retains water and helps to hydrate the skin increasing its volume and density. It is used to treat aged skin and skin destroyed due to sun exposure or medication.
Restylane is used to fill wrinkles, highlight eyebrows, smooth under eye hallows, enhance lips, increase volume in the upper cheek and noso-labial region-laugh lines, to define or accentuate contours of the cheek, chin and jaw line. It’s also used to fill acne scars and to make changes in shape and symmetry for example to soften depression on nose.
A typical treatment lasts up to six months, laugh line corrections up to nine months and cheek argumentation even longer. Side effects include possible redness or even swelling that lasts less than 7 days. More swelling can result on lip injections.
Restylane treatment lasts longer; it lasts even after Restylane is gone because the procedure stimulates the production of its own collagen.
