What is Botox?
Botox is an FDA-approved non-surgical treatment, which aims at treating the underlying cause of wrinkles. It is used to reduce facial lines and to provide the temporary reduction of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows.
How does Botox Work?
While smiling or straining the facial muscles, our body’s central nervous system sends signals to the muscles beneath the skin. Such signals are called neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters cause the skin and muscles to move. The facial skin and muscles are constantly moving. Due to this movement and contraction, over time, wrinkles appear on the skin.
Botox blocks the signals that cause the facial muscles to contract. Botox is able to reduce the appearance of wrinkled skin.
Some advantages of Botox are:
- Helps provide a younger appearance
- Reduces wrinkles
- Smooths skin texture
- Prevents new lines from forming
Target areas:
- Area between the eyebrows
- Crow’s feet (area around the eyes)
The Treatment Process:
The process is quick and easy; it takes approximately 10 minutes with minimal discomfort. A follow up treatment is usually given after three months for a duration of 15 months.
Reaction Time:
In most cases, individuals begin to notice results in as little as 48 hours, but it can take ten to twelve days to see more complete results.
