We are excited to offer these services at both our Manhattan and Scarsdale locations!
WHAT IS PRP?
PRP, otherwise known as platelet rich plasma, is concentrated sample of blood that contains a high level of your own platelets and growth factors. Growth factors in general are responsible for bone and soft tissue regeneration; they are commonly used for the stimulation of wound healing as well. This is essential not only for stimulating tissue regeneration but providing scaffolding for collagen synthesis, skin renewal and cell growth. It will speed up the skin’s repair process which results in a thicker dermis with softer fine lines and wrinkles, less scarring and improved skin tone.
PRP has been used in sports medicine for several years prior to being introduced to the Aesthetic community: by stimulating collagen and elastin growth, the platelets can kick the healing process into overdrive. Many famous athletes like Tiger Woods and Rafael Nadal have received PRP injections for sprained knees and chronic tendon injuries A favorite of celebrities around the world, PRP treatment rejuvenates the skin and hair using the client’s own cells to rese the signs of aging and hair loss. It offers results that fillers alone cannot provide. However, when combined with hyaluronic fillers like Voluma, Radiesse or Juvederm, there is an even better end result.
PRP FACIAL WITH MICRONEEDLING
Our PRP Facial, combined with Microneedling, uses a small amount of your own blood, separates the platelets and during your Microneedling treatment, is applied topically onto the skin and stimulated into micro-channels created by the Microneedling device. The micro-channels created by the device trigger the body to create new collagen and elastin as well as allowing deeper penetration of the PRP.
Microneedling alone stimulates the skin to reduce the appearance of pore size and scarring. It is a non-destructive treatment that harnesses the skin’s own power to naturally rejuvenate and repair itself when injured. For more information on Microneedling alone you can visit here.
These two procedures combined create a beautiful end result and aid in your cell turnover rate. Using your own blood provides no risk of having adverse effects, another benefit of the PRP Facial.
When done in a series of 4-6, which would be determined by one of our Skincare Specialists, optimal results are achieved. The PRP Facial provides natural, long lasting effects. The longevity of these results depends on the extent of the treatment, areas treated, as well as the condition of the client’s skin.
This procedure takes about an hour and a half. We start by numbing the client’s skin for 30 minutes. Dr. Greenberg draws a blood sample to start the PRP centrifugation process, which separates the red blood cells from the plasma. The plasma, which contains both white blood cells and platelets, is then further concentrated until the finish PRP contains approximately eight times as many platelets as normal blood. Once the skin is numb, the Microneedling treatment begins while PRP is simultaneously applied to the face.
There is minimal downtime of about 2-3 days. Most patients will have temporary redness, possible swelling and feel slight discomfort.
PRP For Undereyes and Face Lines
When PRP is used for the under eye area, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, or anywhere that the skin start to age or lose collagen in, it stimulates the tissue causing mild inflammation that triggers the healing process. As a result, new collagen begins to develop. When the new collagen matures, it begins to shrink, tighten and strengthen the skin. Improvement in skin texture and tone is noticeable within 3 weeks. Full collagen regeneration require 3 months.
PRP is unique because it is one of the only treatments that minimize the appearance of under eye circles and “crepe” like texture the skin begins to take on as we get older. Utilizing the body’s natural ability to repair itself, PRP heals the skin and other deeper tissues from the inside out. When combined with hyaluronic fillers like Juvederm or Radiesse, even better results are achieved.
PRP for Hair Restoration
PRP is a powerful, natural way to promote hair growth on the scalp and hairline. This treatment is targeted towards both men and women who suffer from pattern baldness and thinning hair, but also for clients who want to thicken existing hair and encourage the growth of new hair.
How It Works:
Before treatment, we will use the ProNox Patient-controlled Inhaled Analgesia to provide immediate relief of discomfort and anxiety. The ProNox is a pneumatically driven gas system designed to deliver a 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide mixture to adult patients for the relief of pain during treatment.
Once the patient’s blood is drawn and centrifuged, the PRP is injected multiple times under the dermis to stimulate hair production and thickness. This treatment takes no more than 60 to 90 minutes. The client should start to see improvement to the treated area within three months post treatment and will also notice a reduction in the amount of hair being lost. Within six months post procedure, the hair will start to look and feel thicker.
PRP Helps Achieve the Following Results:
- Hair coming out decreases just after the first procedure
- The phase of “coming out” is switched to the phase of growth
- Oil glands begin to function in a normal way, helping to eliminate dandruff
- Growth of fungi and bacteria on the scalp is inhibited
- Hair thickening and the regeneration of hair structure and diameter
- After the course of treatment, hair grows healthy, firm, and glossy
